Nic Hammann's 370Z NISMO charge ends in final-lap Runoffs contact

Nic Hammann's Nissan 370Z NISMO was still challenging for victory at the final corner of Saturday's Touring 3 race at the 2026 SCCA Runoffs. His race ended against a tire barrier just short of the finish at Road America, following contact with Scotty B. White's Ford Mustang V6, according to SCCA's race report.
The result remains provisional. The revised results sheet lists Hammann sixth with 12 completed laps and John LoGiudice as the provisional winner. It also states that the stewards' decision to move White to last position is under appeal. That was still the document linked by SCCA when checked on October 4 at 15:14 UTC.
Record pace put the Z on pole
Hammann arrived as the defending T3 champion and delivered a 2:27.890 qualifying lap in the No. 41 Nissan. SCCA's qualifying report identifies that time as a new class qualifying record at Road America and confirms his second consecutive Tire Rack Pole Award.
It was a strong starting point for another title attempt. The 370Z NISMO had demonstrated its pace over a single lap, and the race timing records credit Hammann with leading laps one through eight of the 13-lap contest.
The fight went to Turn 14
White took over the lead on lap nine. According to SCCA's account, Hammann briefly moved ahead again at Turn 5 on the final lap before White responded at Turn 6.
Hammann then drew alongside into Turn 14. The cars touched in the corner, with further contact as they headed onto the front straight. The Nissan left the track and struck the tire barrier beneath the Mission Foods bridge.
For Z fans, the weekend brought a record-setting qualifying performance and a sustained fight at the front. The finishing order, however, remains subject to the appeal noted on SCCA's revised provisional results.
