Nissan Z U.S. sales fall 19.3% in Q3 as year-to-date gap remains wide

Nissan sold 834 Zs in the United States during July–September 2026, down 19.3% from 1,033 a year earlier, according to the company's October 1 sales report.
Through September, the Z's total reached 2,539, compared with 4,822 over the same nine months of 2025: a 47.3% decline. For enthusiasts watching the health of Nissan's sports-car business, that year-to-date gap is the number worth keeping an eye on.
A narrower quarterly gap

The third-quarter shortfall was 199 cars. The year-to-date deficit was 2,283. Those differences are calculated from Nissan's reported totals.
The smaller quarterly percentage decline is encouraging only in a limited sense: the year-over-year gap was less severe in this quarter than across the first nine months together. It does not establish a month-by-month recovery.
The next question is what moves the needle

There is an updated Z range to watch. Nissan's 2027 Z announcement, originally issued March 23, 2026, introduced a manual-transmission option for the NISMO and revised styling for Sport and Performance models.
That gives Z fans something tangible to discuss alongside the sales figures. But judging the update's commercial impact requires more than a single nameplate total. The quarterly table does not separate model years, trims or transmissions, or establish why sales declined.
Availability, transaction prices and the mix of cars actually reaching buyers would all be useful evidence before pinning the result on any one explanation.
For now, the Z has ground to make up. Whether the updated range can help close that gap is a question for the coming sales reports.
